Replacing Ceramic Accessories in the Bathroom

Broken soap dishes, towel racks and grab bars are replaceable--but as a rule should not be duplicated. In most cases it is easier to use one that is attached differently.

Most accessories are originally set into tile walls with portland cement, which is messy to handle. It is therefore best to replace a grab bar or towel rack with a type that can be screwed into the wall. A light soap dish can be easily applied with tile adhesive; select one without a grab handle, so that you will not be tempted to pull yourself up on it.

To replace a soap dish, first remove the dish from the wall. With a utility knife, score the grout around the soap dish. Protect the adjacent tiles by covering their edges with masking tape. Then, wearing goggles, lightly hammer the broken parts of the dish to loosen them. Set a cold chisel in the groove made by the knife and tap it to force out the dish. Remove the old grout and tile adhesive.

Select a replacement dish that will take up exactly the same number of tile spaces as the old one. Attach the replacement by applying a coat of tile adhesive to the back of the soap dish, then hold it in place with masking tape until the adhesive sets. Wait at least 24 hours for the cement to dry thoroughly, then seal the joints with grout.

Replacing a grab bar or towel rack is just as simple. If a grab bar or towel rack breaks, do not gouge out the cement or remaining ceramic piece, but try to get it as flush as possible with the surrounding tiles. Protest the tile with masking tape and, wearing goggles, use a hammer and cold chisel, then the sanding attachment on an electric drill to remove as much protrusion as possible.

Doorless Walk in Shower Ideas to Follow

Life has become too much of a routine that we seldom take for granted the things that really matter and pass it of as something common. This holds true especially for people who live in the city, being exposed to a hectic environment and being ground to the teeth with work and stress. It seems as if city people no longer have the time to stop and smell the flowers both literally and figuratively and that they need to take a cold shower to clean themselves up, as well as to take their minds away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Sadly, however, even bathing has become no more than a part of their everyday routine. A way to improve this outlook is to follow the doorless walk in shower ideas that would be mentioned in this article.

The purpose in redecorating the doorless walk in shower that most city dwellers have in their bathrooms is to make to make a statement that bathing should be a fun affair. It is not merely an avenue for hygiene, but also the point in one's day where everything is washed in preparation for a new beginning. As such, it would be a good idea to paint or cover the walk in shower area with color or marble patterns that the common bathroom user is fond of. Doing this would make the bather feel that lighter while in the shower.

It would also be a good idea to illuminate the walk in shower area with bright lights. Apart from the functional purpose of illuminating the body while bathing, a brighter bathing area would make the bather feel more positive and upbeat during and after showering. Wall lamps or spotlights should be used to achieve this end but, however, should be placed where it is not prone to be doused or splashed with water. It will also be a good idea to water proof such light fixtures to avoid unforeseen accidents.

Showering in such a happy and visually appealing area will no doubt make the city dweller feel refreshed physically and mentally. Apart from the dirt, the above-mentioned shower walk in set up will also wash away negativity and stress, preparing the city dweller for day and, if anything, giving him or her a daily affair to look forward to.

Putting a New Shower Stall In a Half Bathroom

Our house has a 1/2 bath on the main floor, just a toilet and sink. But it's a pretty big room and there's plenty of space for the addition of a shower stall. This would be great for several reasons.

1. I could get my children out of my bathroom and give them their own space to get ready each morning.

2. My husband could come out of his grungy basement bathroom and have something nicer to use when he comes in from the field.

3. It would boost the value of our home by making it essentially two full baths instead of 1 1/2. Technically it would be 1 and 3/4 baths, but since there's also a 3/4 bath in the basement I'm not sure how realtors handle the fractions. I do know that it would increase my selling value and hopefully help the house sell faster.

There are some technical details that must be considered. First, we have to stud out a wall around the shower enclosure as we don't want a free standing unit, but a full built in. This will give us a chance to hide the annoying pipes that are hanging down from the ceiling and help clean up the room to make it look a lot nicer.

Another nice thing about this project is that we don't need this bathroom to get ready in the morning, so the demolition and construction won't really interfere with our daily lives. I had to give up a major overhaul of my main bathroom because I just couldn't figure out how to work around the mess.

How to Choose a Shower Door Seal

Often with remodeling or designing a new home, it is the details that define living space. Something as simple as the wrong shower seal can make the difference between a bathroom you love and one that is a source of stress. There are several seals on the market. Each of these varieties is best under certain conditions.

Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Shower Seals

These seals are generally translucent and often used in glass-to-glass contact areas. The translucent nature makes these shower seals the natural choice when working on a frame less shower stall. Some of these have single-edged sweeps to allow greater stiffness, while still making a water-proof seal.

Magnetic Seals

These are a sub-group of PVC shower seals that deserve mention in their own right. These 90, 135, or 180 degree seals incorporate a magnetic attraction along the seal to improve water-resistance and to maintain shower door closure. These are useful in both frame less and framed shower stall arrangements.

Aluminum Profile Seal

The most common and traditional of door seals, they are used with metal framed shower doors. These are the vinyl padded "tracks" that allow smooth opening and closing of shower doors, and keep the water in the stall rather than allowing flow into the rest of the bathroom. These come in colors varying from clear to various opaque colors.

Selecting the right seal starts with complimenting to the style and design of your shower stall. Quality materials and careful installation can make your door seal a pleasure instead of a nuisance.

Bathroom Shower Door

With so many designer fashions in the home, the bathroom is also designed with fashion in mind. One big part of that design is the shower door.

It's amazing how many different kinds of shower doors there are. Most of them are made of either transparent glass or the glass that's made with modesty in mind. Some of them are frame less. The frame less ones look as though there is no door or glass there at all. While taking a shower in that, it feels like you're in a room that's completely see-through. There are some now that have a cut design in them. The door can also connect with a side that is also completely glass.

A few of the new type of doors have a hinge and actually open out, just like the front door of your house. These doors can swing out to the left or to the right, depending on how your bathroom is designed. The French door actually has two handles, and each door can open out. However, the sliding panel type doors are still popular.

The modern doors for the shower now have integrated hinge systems that can show more glass, and provide secure operation. There is also a clear drip system at the bottom to keep water in the shower and not outside of the shower room, and it maintains an all-glass look.

There are also some showers that are very small. The bi-fold door is perfect for those. There are also angle doors for the smaller showers.

Glass shower doors can range in price from $225 up to and over $1,700. You may want to consider purchasing a door stop just so you don't end up breaking your fragile door. You'll want one that works well, and adds beauty to the room.

Two Person Shower Design

In the house there will be one bedroom and bathroom that are larger than any of the others. If the house was built correctly than these might be the master bedroom and bathroom. These call for more space because they are accommodating two people who have various needs and wants.

When we think about the perfect master bathroom we will commonly think of possessing a whirlpool bathtub, two sinks, and a large shower. The possibilities are endless - but not all of us are aware of a design that might become a new style - the two person shower. This is one of the most romantic designs that you are able to use in the house.

This is designed to accommodate two individuals. This does not just imply that the entire wall is so large that both might be in there at a time. It also implies that there will be two various shower heads put in so that they are able to literally share the water. No more waiting in line!

These are slightly more involved designs and more pricey than anything else you may choose. It is produced much in the same way as a walk in shower. The only difference is that it may require a good deal more space, extra plumbing, and enough shelves to contain the toiletries for both people.

The base of the two person shower will be made in much the same way as a normal walk in unit. The enclosure is constructed out of glass that can either be completely transparent or frosted depending on the preference of the owners. The door will be put either on the front or the side of it. It must be far enough away from both shower heads in order to keep the water from escaping.

The Two Person Shower is perfect for master bathrooms to expand on the space you have. Use Shower Design Pictures to get ideas on how it should look.

Granite Shower Walls - Oh the Ease

My family recently got some splendid looking shower walls made of granite and they look beautiful to say the least. When I first saw them however, I was concerned that perhaps they would be a challenge to keep clean; to my delight this was not true by any means. It was a surprisingly simple procedure and didn't need too many things to clean it. All I needed to use was a simple sponge and some hot water. This simple method of cleaning will keep it looking brand new while maintaining its durability.

To clean the granite walls in the bathroom shower, all I or anyone needs to do is just dip a sponge in some hot water and rub down the walls. If you do not wish to use a sponge, then you may use a soft cloth and it will be just as effective. If you use anything such as bleach on your granite walls in the bathroom: it may begin to damage the surface and damage the luster it has. It will still remain strong and durable, but it won't look as nice.

The durability of the granite shower walls is also unbelievable: it seems like almost nothing can damage them. Since granite is a very tough material, it can last for many years and never have the need to be changed. To even cut the material, it would need a diamond saw to cut through it. The best thing is that there is no need to worry about breaking it as a result and because such strength, beauty and durability, the overall value of your bathroom will increase thus making your home more valuable.

With professional help, granite shower walls are very easy to install and do not require as much hassle as using other types of material possibly would. For its price it is a well worthwhile investment and now my family think that the bathroom is best looking room in the house because of it. Not only that, they believe that the bathroom is now the easiest room to clean as well. Granite shower walls add great beauty to any bathroom.

Why It's Important to Clean Your Shower Enclosure

Many people who have a shower enclosure installed in their bathroom fail to understand the importance of keeping it clean. With a bit of attention you could transform your bathroom and bring it back to its original state. Here are some important reasons why you should keep your shower cubicle clean and avoid all the nasty elements that are eating away at your bathroom.

Bathrooms provide the perfect environment for germs and bacteria to multiply at a phenomenal rate. The damp and moist corners of your shower enclosure invite both mould and grime to build up and take over. Not only will this affect how your shower cubicle looks it will also affect your health as well as the impression of people visiting your home. Think about it, if you walked into someone's home, whether it be family or friends what would your impression of them be when entering the bathroom and noticing this untidiness. What you want is a nice clean looking bathroom with a gleaming enclosure.

To help reduce the mould and bacteria in your bathroom you need to search for a good bathroom cleaner, which doesn't have to be too expensive, to clean it with. Spread the bathroom cleaner on a cloth or pad, with a bit of elbow grease scrub over the mouldy areas. Then apply some glass cleaner to the shower enclosure and chamois over the glass to give it a sparkling finish.

To help prevent a damp moist environment it is essential that a good airflow is maintained in the bathroom. To increase the amount of air getting into the bathroom, it may be a good idea to install an air extractor fan. However, don't think that by increasing the airflow into the bathroom you can avoid cleaning the shower enclosure as the shower cubicle will not clean itself. With little regular due care and attention you can have your shower enclosure transformed back to looking as good as new.

Shower enclosure features such as the chrome plated parts and handles also need to be cleaned on a regular basis. These probably require a bit more effort initially to restore the look as they require much more of a shine to look clean.

All in all, it is essential that your shower cubicle is kept clean and tidy. Failing to do so may pose you with a few problems down the line. Not only could it damage your credibility amongst your family and friends, your health may be affected as well as the value of your bathroom.

DIY Frameless Glass Shower Doors

frameless shower doors are becoming popular among the new generation of shower doors. They are able to provide solution for people with issues of mobility and the like. A frameless shower door may be of different sizes, larger sizes are preferred because they perform better in handling water flow around the shower area. It is important that you get accurate measurements on the area to be used so that within that range, frameless shower door will remain convenient and accessible to every user. If possible, the floor space should be accommodate at least two people or will still be able to occupy well for a wheelchair bound.

The biggest news is, you can have a do-it-yourself frameless shower door if you will just follow the steps. Here are the things you need to do:

First, plan and decide on the design that will go well with your floor spacing and everything else of the bathroom facilities inside the area. If you want a seamless look, try using the same type of tiles and make use of same color schemes. A transparent frameless shower door design is the most flexible among the types because it matches any color. On the other hand, the more complicated designs such that of customized doors should be able to match the pattern with the theme. For example, a floral design should have a lighter background.

Second, make you area more relaxing to stay especially for those with mobility problems. Create an ambiance with sophistication and good ventilation after installing your frameless shower door. Relaxation will come easily because the glass also creates a spacious feeling, seems bigger than it really is.

Third, add the accessories that fit your chosen door design. This does not only aid to the attraction of your shower area but also for safety purposes. The accessories such as door handle should fit well to avoid accidents inside the area. The most important accessory that you should look into is the hinge. Here, it is where the main door is connected to the wall. If it is not properly installed, it may cause the glass door to accidentally break and may add risk to every user. So you should recheck it a couple of times before finally allowing everyone in the house to use it.

Fourth, fit well with the rubber seal at the base of the door. Make sure that the door will still function well when you use it through and through. The rubber seal will serve as safety mechanism to control water flow all over the area. It keeps the water inside the bathroom preventing falls or slipping. Remember, safety considerations are the most important in any activity around the house.

Lastly, instruct the public on the proper use of the shower door. Some types may vary with the usage. For example, the sliding shower door, the user should know how to properly use it and that is to slide it smoothly not forcibly. Another example is the bi-fold shower door. Its use may be more complicated than others because of its structure. Some maybe confused on its mechanism of function but as long as you show them how, it will just be easy to operate.

Frameless glass shower doors should not be difficult to deal with, it is very simple to install and very easy to use. With the help of do-it-yourself frameless shower doors, you can be assured that anyone are capable of installing these type of doors without needing a professional at all. You just have to put in mind, safety first.

Installing Sliding Glass Shower Doors

Many of us enjoy doing projects on our own and installing sliding shower doors may be a rather simple thing to do, provided you are handy. The first thing that you really need to do is to familiarize yourself with every step that is involved in installing these shower sliding glass doors, as many of them will depend on each other in order for the entire installation to go properly. This is not only true if you're installing a frameless sliding shower door but also if you are installing something that is a bit more standard. There are also some sliding glass doors that are customized for a variety of different reasons, and these also need a customized installation.

The first step in installing the sliding glass shower doors is to measure everything properly in order to make sure that you get the doors that you actually need. This would not only include taking a measurement at the base of the shower door, it would also include taking one every 12 inches as you go up the wall. Keep in mind, not all walls are built plum and it may be necessary for you to either shim out the frame of the shower door at the bottom or the top in order for it to fit properly. If the frame of the shower door is not plum, you will have leaks as a result.

The next step is to install the base track for the shower sliding glass doors that are going to be installed. The only time whenever you will not be doing this is if you get a trackless bottom, which is commonly installed in order to allow handicap access. If this is true, you may still need to install a track at the bottom, although it will not be a guide for the door itself. It will simply be something that flattens out as the wheelchair runs over it but it will still be in place in order to direct the water back into the shower pan.

The top track also needs to be installed properly, and it must be installed directly above the base track in order for everything to work properly. If you're installing a frameless sliding shower door, you're going to need to check the manufacturer's installation instructions, as the upper track will be more of a guide instead of acting as a frame.

Finally, you're going to want to install the sidetracks of the sliding glass shower doors properly so that the door will seat into them and you can avoid any type of leak that may take place. Whenever it is all put together properly, these shower sliding glass doors should work seamlessly and you should not have any point during the sliding of the doors that would be sticky. Just make sure that you mark the tracks in advance and continue to check your marks as the installation progresses in case something happens to slide. This is not only true when you are doing a frameless sliding shower door installation, but it is also true for the standard installations that will typically take place.

Bi Fold Shower Door

Bi fold shower door opens in a minimal amount of space to offer a wide access to the space behind the door. The bi fold shower door can replace the shower curtain. It provides much more room with a tub than bypass doors and does not require the room of a swinging door.

As opposed to curtains, these offer a clean and neat look for the bathroom. They are easy to keep clean by using a squeegee to wipe them down after each use. In addition, choosing doors that are frosted give the person in the shower needed privacy.

Adding a door to a shower is an effective way to prevent splashes out of the shower onto the floor. Water that splashes onto the floor can cause slip hazards for persons exiting the shower. In addition, if not dried quickly, the spill can cause damage to the floor covering as well as structural damage to the floor.

If the bi fold shower door does not fit your bathroom plans, you may want to choose a different style door. Bypass doors require no clearance at all as they open on a sliding track. Use of these will cut the entry space by one-half, however.

A swinging door gives full width access into the shower, but they require the greatest amount of clearance. In some smaller bathrooms, there may not be room for use of a swinging door.

In many situations, the bi fold shower door is the best choice. It allows full access into the shower without the need for a wide clearance.

How to Clean Glass Shower Doors

Glass is an elegant item to have anywhere in the house and always brings in a touch of class. Although it may be fun and stylish to have, the hard part comes in when you have to clean it. It may not be a joy but if you want to maintain that stainless and polished look a few scrubs here and there are in order.

Before tackling your glass shower doors there are some items that you need to have on hand. You'll need a spray bottle, vinegar, water and a squeegee. Mix the water and the vinegar in a bowl and pour it into the spray bottle. The ratio of the vinegar and water mixture should be 1:1. Make sure you shake the mixture well.

Make sure there's lots of steam on the glass shower doors, so cleaning right after you've taken a shower is a good idea. If not, run the hot water tap for about 3 minutes for steam to fill the bathroom. Spray your doors with the vinegar and water mixture and wait for it to settle. During this time the vinegar is reacting and lifting off any stubborn stains and scum.

Squeegee all your glass shower doors until the vinegar and water mixture is completely removed. Do this thoroughly and make sure you get into the corners where dirt is known to hide. After you've done this allow any other remaining water to dry.

The advice offered above applies generally to cleaning your glass shower doors but here are tips on how to maintain your glass doors on a daily basis. Reduce the amount of mildew by wiping off any that is present after each shower. Also open the glass doors after each shower to allow for fresh air to circulate as this discourages the growth of mildew. Coat your tile walls with furniture polish to prevent scum from soap from building up. This is also a useful technique to prevent water spots. When it comes to removing hard water stains on glass doors a bit of alcohol will work best. Just leave a bit of it on the stain for a while then removed by scrubbing. A little bit of lemon oil spread on a piece of cloth can be used to remove hard water stains and lime build up on shower doors and walls.

Advantages of an Electric Shower

In this busy world where everyone is in a hurry, from morning till evening, everyone would definitely want a warm and hygienic shower that is comforting, pleasurable, and relaxing. That's why nowadays, almost in every household there is a shower installed for everyone to freshen up after a long day.

There are different types of showers available these days including power shower, mixer shower, electric shower, and others designs. Out of all these types, electric showers are the most popular. Electric showers are also called instantaneous showers because of the process it take before dispensing the water; it heats water instantly the moment it is needed. This is the major advantage of electric shower. It works independently from other household heating system. Thus, it is not interfered by any other electrical machines.

Electric showers are available in most stores selling household products. It is simple, easy to install, and only requires plumbing when installing the cold water supply and the electrical connection. But recently, wireless electric showers were developed in response to the advantages of technology.

Wireless showers do not require plumbing at all. It communicates to the control box through a remote control which is more convenient. Users can control the water temperature or choose between hot and cold water to be dispensed by simply pressing a button. It draws water directly from a cold water supply and warms it instantly before dispensing.

Are you tired of waiting for cold water to warm before taking a shower? Or, having some problems with your electric bill due to faulty boiler? If the answer to these questions is "Yes", then it's time to make a shift for electric showers. Electric showers are economical since water is not wasted and it only consumes less electricity. Newer designs are capable of controlling water temperature and storing previous settings. Aside from that, it is also designed to flush out remaining hot water to prevent scalding.

Some designs are good in mixing hot and cold water which is what users require when taking a shower. High power rating of electric showers helps maintain its pressure and the force of spray. Other models have memory button designed for users to press and store information of the current water temperature. This allows the shower to use the same setting when used.

Several houses are supplied with low pressure water and others have no main supply of water at all. In cases where low pressures water is supplied, electric showers are advantageous in such as way that it can continue dispensing high pressured water to the shower head. It has a small pump built in the unit that keeps pressure up while heating water.

Despite the advantages there are still few disadvantages in using this type of shower. It is economical since it requires less electricity, but it cannot store water to supply for the next shower. It will then have to heat the water and consume electricity for doing so.

Electrical showers are being used in many establishments and households. Comfortable, require less maintenance, easy to clean, affordable, and technologically advance are among the basic features why these are the typical choice for ones shower needs.

Shower Door Seals - An Important Bathroom Accessory

Your bathroom is a place which requires a great deal of attention to ensure that it is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The shower is an important facet of the bathroom. There is nothing like a good shower to get you up and going and the shower door is a piece of furniture that can transform the look of your bathroom, while retaining the functionality of your bathroom.

Shower doors are of various styles and it is worth your while to consider some aspects before making your decision on which one to go for. You must study the shower seal, the sealing strip that they have used, how much space is the door going to block within the bathroom and of course the durability. People have found the shower sliding door to be the most functional and convenient to install as it saves space while giving you the privacy. This type of shower door is preferred particularly where space is at a premium and every inch is precious. With so many styles available, every individual can choose the shower door of his preference with particular emphasis on the finish and the material used to make the door. Typically, translucent glass, decorative blocks of glass and glass with etchings on them is the ones in vogue.

The traditional styles of glass shower doors have had their fair share of problems with regard to leakage, cleanliness and durability. Over a period of time, they have been found to move away from their position leading to a lot of close attention and maintenance to ensure they do not totally slip off. Moreover the cleaning of the panels on a regular basis to ensure smooth sliding of the doors is another botheration that needs to be taken care of. Modern shower doors come without frames and they have lent a new dimension to the overall look of the bathroom. They are not only durable but are very convenient to maintain and being the new products, there is plenty of variety to choose from.

The shower door seals are very important parts that ensure there is no leakage of any sort and some of the shower door seals available are typically made of polycarbonate and PVC. There are various kinds of shower seals with their own applications.

Some of them are:

a) Clear Polycarbonate Jamb 180 degrees

These are used for glass - to - glass sealing and the wonderful thing about this seal is it leaves no marks and is seamless.

b) Vinyl and Polycarbonate seals

These are 6 inch seals pieces that prevent any leakage of water from the shower as soon as it is opened. It therefore avoids the splashing of water on the shower enclosure.

Shopping for perfect shower door seal is not easy. Now with the help of showerdoorseal.org you can select a shower door seal easily. Browse through the extensive yet varied catalogue of showerdoorseal.org and select a suitable door seal for your bathroom.

Shower Wall Panels

Shower Wall Panels are generally sheets of UPVC which are attached to the wall of a bathroom or shower. Shower wall panels are much easier to apply than conventional ceramic bathroom tiles. Each panel is usually slotted together by the use of a tongue and groove system, the tongue on one panel slides into the groove of the next panel and so on, thus covering the wall and ensuring a very quick and easy installation.

Sometimes these wall panels may need to be sealed with a thin bead of silicone sealant inside and along the joint, especially if a high pressure power shower is to be used.

Shower wall panels are available in a huge range of styles and colours, and these can include ;

o Wood grain: Marble Effect: Mosaic Effect, or just plain colours.

These wall panels can usually be complimented with waterproof ceiling panels to give that extra finished touch.

Installing UPVC panels in a bathroom can bring some advantages that ordinary ceramic bathroom tiles do not have and some of these can include;

o They are easy and quick to install
o They have a wipe over surface
o UPVC panels have a very long life and will look good for many years
o They have no grout to go mouldy

UPVC shower panels are available in a range of various sizes, and panels of extra length are usually available when panelled ceilings are required.

Some common standard sizes can include;

o 250mm x 2.7m
o 250mm x 2.6m
o 333mm x 2.7m
o 100mm x 2.6m
o 250mm x 3.0m
o 250 x 2.6m

Installation methods are generally very simple, and while batons and stud work can be used for preparation requirements, the panels can be fixed immediately onto plaster, block, brick, and can even be fixed over existing ceramic tiles. Most installers prefer sticking the panels directly to the wall with some form of panel adhesive, and as this adhesive is quite thick it can be used to pack out uneven areas of the wall.

The panels may also be stapled providing the walls are suitable, and the staples cannot be seen as each successive panel covers the stapled fixing. This is a very quick and easy method of fixing the panels to the wall, and also allows the panels to be removed quickly and easily.

Where very uneven walls are encountered, batons may fixed to the wall and the shower panels, then fixed to the batons either with a staple gun or the appropriate adhesive.

Shower wall panels are quickly gaining ground and popularity in the DIY industry, for there hygienic, durable and ease of use qualities, and are an asset to any bathroom.

A Look at Ventilation and Lighting Options For Your Shower Enclosure

There are different types of shower enclosures available in market. Your choice of ventilation and lighting options should depend on your choice of enclosure. For example, if you have opted for a traditional shower enclosure that rises right up to the wall, then you will need separate lighting and electrical connections inside the enclosure.

If you have opted for transparent enclosures, you may manage with the existing lighting provided it is close enough to illuminate the shower enclosure. However, if the enclosure is in a corner and if the illumination is at the other end, then even a transparent fiberglass body may not suffice.

You will have no option but to go in for a separate electrical point. Once you go in for this point, you will have to consider the possibility of short circuit due to the splashing of water. You will either have to go in for concealed wiring or you will have to take adequate precautions to ensure that this risk is not present.

If you have an enclosure that rises right up to the ceiling, then you will have to consider the point of ventilation as well. It is convenient to use the existing ventilation by making it a part of the enclosure.

However, this means that the ventilation for the bathroom will be virtually nonexistent once the enclosure has been closed with the door. You will either have to break the wall and install a new window for ventilation in the bathroom or you will have to manage with the existing option.

All these are minor decisions but will have a significant impact on your overall experience. Remember, nobody wants to walk into a bathroom that smells of water and the muskiness that is associated with the excess of water. Hence, you will need to consider all these points before taking the final decision.

You should also provide for your future requirements. Your kids may be small today. However, will the shower enclosure be big enough to help them enjoy their bath even when they grow up? What if guests are around? Is it convenient to use?

What if somebody slips? Is the entire structure so fragile that it would come crashing down just because a hefty person slipped and grabbed hold of the structure for support? You will have to consider all these decisions and factors before installing the shower enclosure in your house.

Glass Sliding Shower Doors

Sliding shower doors give many homeowners the chance to update their bathrooms. If you are stuck with the old shower curtain, sliding doors can be the ideal update for you. Not only does this help to provide for better privacy than a shower curtain, but it also offers you the security of a glass enclosure around your tub or stall. This not only gives you the chance to save the floors around your tub from water damage, but also allows for a more modern appearance as well as adding equity to your home. Framed or frameless, the options are open to help you decide what will best meet your needs.

If you already have sliding doors, updating may mean the replacement of your glass, enclosure or the entire framed or frameless doors. Frameless doors are simply glass doors that are attached at the top and bottom of the shower stall or tub, and are connected and sealed at all edges. The glass for frameless shower doors is the same depth and strength that is used in those that are framed; there are no outer enclosures or frames. The glass options for framed or frameless sliding shower doors comes in frosted designs, clear glass with no designs or mars, smoked glass or even colored glass.

Frosted doors are generally found at retailers who offer replacement glass or the entire tub or stall enclosures. The sliding shower doors can be replaced completely, or you can opt to reuse the same glass doors and only use replacement parts for the framed areas or frameless design. There is a difference in prices when it comes to framed or frameless sliding shower doors. The glass for both is normally a 1/8 inch thick safety glass and normal enclosures for framed doors are made of anodized aluminum. Other options for enclosures include reversible top tracks for framed, nickel or bronze enclosures or even plastic.

Frameless doors often have more options than those framed models of like prices. Retailers may offer more or less options, depending on your location. Those without frames include options like splash panels of tempered glass up to 1/4 inch thick, chrome finished hardware, rubbed bronze finishes and also brushed nickel and frosted glass. Designs in glass are easily found, as many homeowners wish to still have privacy as well as the stylish appearance. All the metals and hardware included with sliding shower doors without frames are used as the header, top hanger rails, bottom track and corners. The glass itself is not framed with any metals, but hardware is still required to hold this heavy glass in place. Retailers offer professionals in most areas, as a way of gaining knowledge needed to replace these fantastic doors. Not only are you investing in the elegance of your home interior, but you are also gaining monetary value in your home. With updated shower doors instead of a shower curtain, your home can gain as much as $2,500 in value when appraised depending on location.

Shower Stalls - Bring a Touch of Style to Your Bathroom!

Bathroom shower stalls come in all kinds of stylish designs to suit bathrooms of all sizes and themes. If you're thinking of revamping your bathroom, installing a shower stall could be a great way to give the whole room a sleek and modern new image, whilst at the same time offering a practical function. With the busy lifestyles we all lead these days, taking a quick shower rather than waiting for the bathtub to fill is a popular option. Even in smaller bathrooms it's often possible to find the space for a corner shower stall.

Modern shower stalls are made from attractive and durable materials, such as fiberglass, acrylic or tempered glass. Not only does a shower stall look great and bring a touch of luxury to a bathroom, it's designed to provide many years of use. Shower stalls are made to be low maintenance and easy to clean. If you have a particular look in mind you might want to look into getting a custom made stall. For instance, you could choose between clear, colored, molded or etched glass, depending on what would fit in best with your bathroom's new look.

When looking at shower stalls, think about the layout of your bathroom and take accurate measurements to help you choose the best design. Consider whether you want to fit a curtain or a door across the entrance. Fabric shower curtains are inexpensive to buy and are a good way to add a splash of color to your décor. Alternatively, frameless shower doors offer a more permanent solution. If you've got the space, a folding door can look very elegant, although sliding doors make better use of a small space. Whatever look you have in mind for your bathroom's makeover, the choice of shower stalls available on the internet offers something to fit in with any theme and budget!

Residential Steam Shower - How to Have One in Your Home

You must have heard about steam showers in relation to spas and saunas; however, now it has become a reality in most of the homes thanks to new residential versions. A growing number of people are becoming aware of its advantages and have therefore started to remodel one of their bathrooms with these residential shower units.

Residential steam showers can be an expensive step to take but once you find out the health benefits of a steam shower you are bound to agree that it is one investment that you would like to make as soon as possible. Our basic knowledge tells us that ages ago steam bathing was used for the purpose of therapeutic healing but now research has unfolded many more health benefits.

Types of Residential Steam Showers

There are two kinds of residential showers which are available in the market and depending upon your preference and ease of installation you can pick from either one.

Assembling Your Own Shower Enclosure

Yes it is possible, although it can prove to be difficult and time-consuming. There are three main things that you need to consider in this task other than all the little details.

1. You need to have or assemble a roof on your shower enclosure, so that there is an enclosed space where the steam will be blocked. It can either be an acrylic dome top or one that is made out of fiber glass.

2. You will also need to seal this enclosure by a door. Both these steps are taken to prevent steam from escaping. If it does then it can ruin the paint and plaster of the bathroom.

3. Of course you are also going to need a steam generator which generates steam in to the enclosure.

If you think that you are skilled in plumbing then you can attempt this task, otherwise you will need to work with a plumber to get it properly installed.

Buying a Self Contained Steam Shower Enclosure

Steam shower enclosures come in four different variations:

1. The Basic
2. The Deluxe
3. The Combo Shower With Whirlpool
4. And Combo Shower With Sauna.

All these kinds of showers would be costing you more money than assembling one yourself in the home, but they are going to avoid all the hassle. Let's look at what a ready-made steam shower offers you. The basic one will have a steam jet, a seat and a container for soap and that is about it; but in the Deluxe models you can expect to see,

1. Aromatherapy oil distribution facility with the steam outlet,
2. Multiple water jets for massaging the muscles,
3. Foot massagers,
4. Hand held shower nozzles,
5. Radio and
6. A Remote control to operate the functions from outside the steam room.

All the basic information about residential steam showers is provided here in this article. If you buy a prepared shower enclosure or decide to build one yourself, you can be sure that it is not going to be an inexpensive investment. Because you will spend a lot of money, so you have to be sure of your choice.

Shower Doors

Shower doors are available in numerous styles and types. There are certain important considerations to keep in mind when deciding upon a shower door, including the space available, what type of door to choose to get optimum utilization of space, how it should open, durability, ability to keep water in the shower area, light permeability, and their functional and design compatibility with other bathroom accessories.

The most commonly used shower door is the sliding, or bypass, type of door. These are used especially where space is a limitation. The door's style and hardware finish may vary according to individual preference. Obscured or frosted translucent glass, etched glass which may be plain or obscured, and decorative glass blocks are some of the options available in sliding shower doors. The traditional glass door is accompanied by a lot of problems, such as leaking water, keeping the panels clean, maintaining the channels where the door slides and avoiding the problem of loose glass. Most of these problems can, however, be personally attended to, without requiring professional help.

The contemporary market is flooded with many varieties of shower doors. frameless-quadrant shower enclosures have become very popular in recent years. Frosted-glass corner shower doors with chrome or stainless steel trim are another hot option to consider. Apart from livening up the bathroom, they are easier to maintain, more durable and more adaptable to individual requirements. The shower market offers a wide range of choices that have to be carefully studied and measured to suit the individual's needs.

The other bathroom shower accessory which has made its name very famous is the bath shower screens. These are very common and are available in various size and models. This can lead to wet floor and which can further lead to bathrooms accidents. The bath screen is the best option which is available to ensure your bathroom floor remains dry and you remain safe.

Frameless Shower Enclosures Will Make Your Bathroom Look Like a Million Bucks

Do you watch much TV, specifically any house flipping shows or home improvement programs? How about the ones on MTV that show you homes of the ultra rich and famous? If you were to sit and watch 5 shows a week of any of those types you'd see at least 4 frameless shower enclosures. And for good reason, they're beautiful. They just look "new" and "modern" and "cool". The flowery descriptive words just don't end. I think they're awesome.

From what I can see, there are 4 main types.

In-Line - this one has just one side made out of glass, connecting to the surround solid walls which are usually made of a nice stone. It's the most basic and standard option.

Right Angle - This one has two sides made of glass while the other two sides are stone or some other surface. It's more open, invites more light than the in line version and the effect of the two glass sides coming together without a metal strip in the middle is really upscale.

Custom Made - If that's that good enough for you then there's the custom design. This option pretty much allows for anything. Curved, straight, a combination of both. If you have a really odd space to fit a shower into then a custom frameless shower would be your best bet. Granted they cost more, but the effect will be stunning and you won't have to sacrifice anything.

Neo Angle - Usually at least 3 sides made of glass, and often in unusual geometric shapes like half a hexagon. These are also quite stunning and again, the effect of those glass sides coming together without a metal frame is just incredible.
